Privacy notice

This notice covers the TRENU website, member app, and support and privacy requests.

Website visits

You can browse the site and get the Android app without an account. The servers that deliver the site and the app download may record your IP address and the page or file you request.

We count APK responses by app version and HTTP status using Datadog. Those counts contain no IP addresses or member details.

Member accounts and savings

When you set up the app, you provide a mobile number and choose a passkey or TRENU PIN. We use your sign-in details to manage access to your account and help you recover access. We use your name, date of birth, gender, and National Identification Number (NIN) to identify your membership record and support our Know Your Customer (KYC) checks.

To complete your profile, you also provide your next of kin’s name, relationship to you, and phone number so TRENU has a contact for your membership record.

You need to complete your profile before you can use the app home screen, make a new contribution, or request a withdrawal. Your email address and address details are optional.

The app checks the format of your NIN. If you use the optional ID scanner, the app reads the number on your device and keeps the camera images there. The app submits the number when you save or continue with your profile. TRENU encrypts the saved NIN and shows only its last four characters in the app.

If you ask TRENU to link or recover a phone, an administrator checks your identity and control of the phone number. TRENU records the reason for issuing a recovery code in your account access history.

We keep records of your savings, contributions and withdrawal requests so you can see your balance and track transactions. When a request uses mobile money, TRENU shares details such as the relevant phone number, amount and reference with SpringPesa to process the payment and check its status.

If you enter someone else’s mobile money number to pay a contribution, we use that number to route the payment request and check its status.

We use a hosting provider to store member records. Account and staff permissions limit access to those records.

Privacy requests and complaints

You can email us to ask for a copy or correction of your personal information, request deletion where the law allows, or raise a privacy concern. In your first message, describe what you need and leave out your PIN, recovery codes and full NIN.
